The wine region of Mâcon-Verzé
Mâcon village appellation (2005) on the commune of Verzé in the Haut-Mâconnais: Chardonnay whites with a deep golden robe, grapefruit and woodland white flower nose, a finely mineral, rigorous palate. Gamay for reds and rosés. Primarily west-facing slopes at 280–410 m, temperate climate with moderate continental influence—warm summers and cool winters preserving freshness. Soils over fossil Bajocian limestone (170 Ma) of the Middle Jurassic.
The wine region of Burgundy
Absolute reference for great terroir wines: opulent, mineral Chardonnay in whites (chiselled Chablis, buttery Meursault, majestic Montrachet), fine and silky Pinot Noir in reds (full-bodied Gevrey, structured Pommard, delicate Volnay). Exceptional age-worthy wines with complex notes - red fruits, undergrowth, butter, hazelnut. Some lively Aligoté and light Gamay (Mâconnais). 29,500 ha, 84 tiered AOCs (Régionale, Village, 1er Cru, Grand Cru), 1,247 UNESCO Climats.
