Opulent, heady whites, rich and silky, with intense aromas of apricot, yellow peach, mango, violet, honeysuckle and musky, honeyed notes. Discreet acidity, creamy finish. Star of Condrieu AOC and Château-Grillet AOC, co-vinified in Côte-Rôtie with Syrah (up to 20%). Widely exported to California (Central Coast), Australia (Eden Valley) and Languedoc. A Rhône variety.
Sub-region of California's South Coast AVA (1985) south of Los Angeles, tempered by Pacific breezes. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are the signature reds: full-bodied and sun-drenched with intense blackberry, black cherry, plum, garrigue and spicy-peppery notes, round tannins. Zinfandel and Tempranillo add a Mediterranean character. Chardonnay and Viognier as fragrant whites.
