Pinot noir is an important red grape variety in Burgundy and Champagne, and its reputation is well known! Chénas is a small appellation of red wines produced in an area of northern Beaujolais that is one of the ten crus of Beaujolais. It takes its name from the oak forests that once dotted the surrounding hillsides, an area that is now home to a sea of Gamay vines. Chénas wines are among the heaviest in the Beaujolais, and are known for their Floral">floral and earthy Character and their ability to age. Chénas is, along with Moulin-a-Vent, one of the most renowned crus of the Beaujolais, and the best examples can be kept for up to ten years.
