Kazakhstan is a large transcontinental country: the vast majority of its territory is in Asia, but its western extremities cross into Eastern Europe. Although wine production is very Old, vodka is the main alcoholic drink. Countries of this Size are naturally subject to significant climatic and topographical variations within their borders. Kazakhstan is no exception. Its southwest corner is dominated by the deserts of Central Asia. To the northeast are the cooler, greener plains of western Siberia.
