The wine region of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is located in the region of Walker Bay of Western Cape of South Africa. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Spookfontein or the Domaine Spookfontein produce mainly wines red, white and sparkling. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley are Merlot, Cabernet franc and Cabernet-Sauvignon, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley often reveals types of flavors of earth, vegetal or tree fruit and sometimes also flavors of spices, citrus fruit or tropical fruit.
In the mouth of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is a powerful with a nice freshness. We currently count 6 estates and châteaux in the of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, producing 16 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, lamb or game (deer, venison).
