Discover the grape variety: Feteasca neagra

Structured and powerful reds with a deep dark ruby colour, firm tannins and moderate acidity, on intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black plum, candied cherry, sweet spices and balsamic leather notes. Ample palate, fine ageing potential with oak maturation. A pillar of Romania's great reds (Dealu Mare, Dragășani) and Moldova, the quality locomotive of Carpathian wine revival. Ancient native Romanian variety.

The wine region of Riverside County

Southern California county encompassing Temecula Valley AVA (south-west of county on east slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains, AVA 1984, well-drained decomposed granite at 460 m, cool summer nights via Rainbow Gap corridor, 63 varieties). Cabernet Sauvignon is the signature dominant red — structured profile with concentrated dark fruits. Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Merlot and Syrah as complementary reds; Chardonnay and Viognier as whites; Sangiovese and Tempranillo as Mediterranean accents.

The wine region of California

Powerful, sunny reds: dense Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (blackcurrant, chocolate, tobacco, ample tannins), spicy, jammy Zinfandel from the Sierra Foothills, silky red-fruited Pinot Noir on the cool coast (Sonoma, Russian River, Central Coast). Opulent, buttery Chardonnay, notes of yellow fruit and vanilla. Varied climate, from the hot interior to the Pacific-cooled coast. 80% of US production, 139 AVAs including Napa (1st AVA, 1981).

The word of the wine: Trader-breeder

In the major wine regions, the négociant does not simply buy and resell the wines but, from very young wines, carries out all the maturing operations until bottling.
