The Picardy Estate is a renowned family estate located in the heart of Pemberton, a lush town in Western Australia, known for its cool climate ideal for viticulture. Operating approximately 14 hectares of vineyards, the Picardy Estate is the embodiment of a three-generations' dream, emphasizing harmony with nature and the expression of the land. The estate is located at an altitude of 170 to 250 meters on a deep, well-drained granitic sandy soil. It benefits from a unique microclimate characterized by cool summers and cold winters, which is perfectly suited to late ripening grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their vineyard presents a tremendous varietal diversity, producing a range of exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of Pemberton. Founded in 1993 by Bill Pannell, a winemaker with extensive winemaking experience in Australia, and his wife Sandra, the Picardy Estate was one of the pioneers of winemaking in Western Australia. Their philosophy embraces the principles of sustainable viticulture, advocating a minimalist approach without the use of herbicides or pesticides, and optimizing natural resources to maintain a harmonious balance with the environment. The reputation of the Picardy Estate and the quality of its wines have been recognized at both national and international levels. The wines produced from Picardy's vineyards are known for their balance, elegance, and their ability to fully express the character of the terroir. These include Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, all of which are vinified with great care and special attention.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
