The wine region of Monthélie Premier Cru
15 Premier Cru vineyards on the Côte de Beaune on south and east-facing slopes of Monthélie, adjacent to Volnay and Meursault. Pinot Noir dominates (35 ha in 1er cru): elegant ruby with small red and black fruits (cherry, blackcurrant) and floral notes (violet, peony), evolving toward undergrowth, fern and spices with maturity. Chardonnay adds freshness. Jurassic drained marly limestone soils, aging 8-15 years, finesse reminiscent of Volnay.
The wine region of Burgundy
Absolute reference for great terroir wines: opulent, mineral Chardonnay in whites (chiselled Chablis, buttery Meursault, majestic Montrachet), fine and silky Pinot Noir in reds (full-bodied Gevrey, structured Pommard, delicate Volnay). Exceptional age-worthy wines with complex notes - red fruits, undergrowth, butter, hazelnut. Some lively Aligoté and light Gamay (Mâconnais). 29,500 ha, 84 tiered AOCs (Régionale, Village, 1er Cru, Grand Cru), 1,247 UNESCO Climats.
The word of the wine: Tressallier
White grape variety from the Allier region, identical to the Sacy variety grown in Burgundy. Rarely vinified on its own, it is used in the blending of Saint-Pourçain white wines, associated with chardonnay, the main grape variety of the appellation. Syn.: sacy.
