Colourful and simply fruity reds with a deep purple hue, silky tannins and an airy palate with preserved acidity, featuring aromas of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), spices and smoky notes. Cold- and mildew-resistant. Grown mainly in Canada (Quebec, Nova Scotia, Ontario) and the north-eastern United States for vineyards with a rigorous continental climate. Black hybrid grape (synonym Maréchal Foch), obtained in 1911 by Eugène Kuhlmann in Alsace.

The wine region of Mâcon-Serrières

Mâcon geographical denomination (2005) in Serrières — uniquely in the Mâconnais it produces only reds and rosés (100% Gamay) in a region dominated by Chardonnay. Vivid ruby robe, nose evolving to strawberry compote, marshmallow and pepper. Well-integrated tannins with considerable length. East and south-east slopes on Triassic siliceous terrain and pink sands from erosion of igneous rocks — cool climate at 950 mm/year, late cycle.
