The wine region of Planalto Mirandês
Sub-region of Trás-os-Montes DOC in north-east Portugal (350–600 m altitude on schist soils, Douro river influence, very hot dry summers and negative winters). Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca lead as noble reds — ripe, structured profiles with firm tannins requiring long ageing from torrid summers. Bastardo, Mourisco Tinto and Tinta Amarela as complementary reds; Gouveio, Malvasia Fina and Viosinho as fresh, mineral, acidic whites.

Regional Wine (IGP Trás-os-Montes) of north-east Portugal, "beyond the mountains" of Marão and Alvão, vineyards along the Tua, Sabor and Tâmega valleys, sheltered continental climate.
