Discover the grape variety: Piquepoul

Languedoc family with very high acidity, aromatic signature of southern France. Piquepoul Blanc gives lively, saline whites (Picpoul de Pinet AOC) with notes of citrus, white flowers and marine iodine, ideal with oysters. Piquepoul Noir gives fruity, fresh reds, one of the thirteen authorised varieties at Châteauneuf-du-Pape. French autochthonous variety from Languedoc, in white, black and grey versions.

The wine region of Planalto Mirand&ecircs

Sub-region of Trás-os-Montes DOC in north-east Portugal (350–600 m altitude on schist soils, Douro river influence, very hot dry summers and negative winters). Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca lead as noble reds — ripe, structured profiles with firm tannins requiring long ageing from torrid summers. Bastardo, Mourisco Tinto and Tinta Amarela as complementary reds; Gouveio, Malvasia Fina and Viosinho as fresh, mineral, acidic whites.

The wine region of Transmontano

Regional Wine (IGP Trás-os-Montes) of north-east Portugal, "beyond the mountains" of Marão and Alvão, vineyards along the Tua, Sabor and Tâmega valleys, sheltered continental climate. Signature Touriga Nacional: intense and structured with blackberry, black cherry, violet, liquorice and balsamic hints, firm tannins and vibrant fruit. Elegant Touriga Franca, dense Tinta Roriz and spiced Trincadeira as complements. Gouveio, Síria, Malvasia Fina and Viosinho in whites.

The word of the wine: Grafting

A method used since the phylloxera crisis, consisting of fixing a graft of local origin on a rootstock resistant to phylloxera.
