In the United States (California), it is one of the most widely planted grape varieties, having been introduced in the 1830s well before Primitivo. Geneva, at the western end of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), is the second-largest city in Switzerland and the country's third-largest wine producing canton after Valais and Vaud.
