The wine region of Ramandolo
Friulian DOCG for a sweet wine (hills of Nimis and Tarcento beneath Monte Bernardia, 1,732 m; gentle summers and windy autumns; soils at 250–400 m; a microclimate concentrating sugar and freshness). Verduzzo Friulano is the only authorised variety: amber-yellow, sweet and elegantly aromatic with ripe stone fruits, apricot, honey and almond, with an unusually firm tannic structure for a white wine. Very late harvest through to December or straw-wine drying—a uniquely tannic sweet wine.
The wine region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Italian benchmark of great whites of elegance and minerality. Emblematic Friulano with notes of fresh almond, pear and white flowers, taut Ribolla Gialla, precise Pinot Grigio, lively Sauvignon and balanced Chardonnay. Rare sweet Picolit (DOCG), saline Malvasia Istriana. Rising reds: fruity spicy Refosco, more tannic Pignolo and Schioppettino.
The word of the wine: Foxé
An animal odor found in certain reduced or old wines, which are also said to fox, in reference to the fox.
