Discover the grape variety: Penouille

Light, simple fruity reds with a pale, lightly coloured ruby, soft tannins and an airy palate with moderate acidity, undemonstrative red fruit aromas. Rustic, discreet profile. Almost extinct, preserved in INRAE varietal collections for its heritage value, testament to the pre-phylloxera ampelographic diversity of the South-West and studied among heritage varieties. Rare French black variety, once grown in the South-West.

The wine region of Saint-Georges d&rsquoOrques

Periurban Languedoc AOC west of Montpellier (50–150 m, heart of the Grès de Montpellier, Villafranchian clay-limestone terraces, Jurassic hills to the north, iron-oxide-rich rounded pebble mantle to the south): Syrah and Grenache as signature assembled reds — structured and concentrated with fine fruits (blackberry, cherry, morello), suave tannins, ample and generous balanced by natural nerve. Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault as complements, good ageing potential.

The wine region of Languedoc-Roussillon

Largest single French vineyard, dominated by sunny, generous reds. Spicy Syrah, candied Grenache (ripe fruit, garrigue), structured Carignan, deep Mourvèdre, supple Cinsault. Stars: structured Corbières, Minervois, Faugères, Saint-Chinian; round Côtes-du-Roussillon. Legendary vins doux naturels: Banyuls and Maury (fortified Grenache) with notes of cocoa, fig, prune.

The word of the wine: Clairet

Strong rosé wine reminiscent of a light red.
