It is thought to be the result of a natural cross between montonico pinto and scacco. It has often been confused with the catarratto even today. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is an autonomous region in Italy, located in the extreme Northeast of the country, bordered by Austria and Slovenia to the north and east respectively.
