The wine region of Mâcon-Vergisson
Mâcon geographic denomination (2005) on Vergisson at the heart of the southern Mâconnais escarpments at the foot of La Roche. 100% Chardonnay: deep golden robe, refined lemon zest, citrus blossom and stony nuances without greenness. Vines on the plateau at 380 m at the Sur la Roche lieu-dit, sheltered from northerly winds by woodland. Soils from upper Bajocian limestone (170 Ma), white colluvium on lower slopes.
The wine region of Burgundy
Absolute reference for great terroir wines: opulent, mineral Chardonnay in whites (chiselled Chablis, buttery Meursault, majestic Montrachet), fine and silky Pinot Noir in reds (full-bodied Gevrey, structured Pommard, delicate Volnay). Exceptional age-worthy wines with complex notes - red fruits, undergrowth, butter, hazelnut. Some lively Aligoté and light Gamay (Mâconnais). 29,500 ha, 84 tiered AOCs (Régionale, Village, 1er Cru, Grand Cru), 1,247 UNESCO Climats.
The word of the wine: Density per hectare
Number of vines per hectare. For the same yield, a vine planted with 3,000 vines per hectare bears many more bunches (per vine) than a vine planted with 10,000. The grapes will therefore be less rich in sugar and polyphenols (tannins, aromas...).
