Discover the grape variety: Jacquère
Jacquère is the most widespread grape variety in Savoie. It has medium-sized bunches that are cylindrical-conical. They are compact and often winged. The berries are medium-sized and can be slightly elongated or spherical, with thick skins that turn from yellowish green to golden yellow to a slightly pinkish hue when fully ripe. The soft flesh of the fruit of this variety is tart but not very juicy. Jacquère has a budding process almost identical to that of Chasselas. With a semi-erect growth habit, this white variety is vigorous and fertile, and should be pruned short to be more productive. It thrives on clay-limestone soils as well as on stony scree. Grey rot and black rot are the main enemies of Jaquère. It can cope with oidium and mildew. This variety produces a light, pale, acidic and lively wine with a floral aroma. It should be consumed quickly.

The wine region of Mâcon-Chaintré is located in the region of Mâcon of Burgundy of France. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Valette or the Domaine Cornin produce mainly wines white and red. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Mâcon-Chaintré are Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Gamay noir, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Mâcon-Chaintré often reveals types of flavors of pineapple, yellow apple or microbio and sometimes also flavors of vegetal, oak or tree fruit.
The wine region of Mâconnais
The Mâconnais wine region in Southern Burgundy is centred on the provincial town of Mâcon, from which it takes its name. The region produces a considerable amount of wine, specializing in white wines made from Chardonnay and a smaller number of red wines made from Pinot Noir and Gamay. Unlike the Côte d'Or to the North, where a band of densely planted vines runs roughly north-south across the countryside, the vineyards of the Mâconnais are more sparsely planted and interspersed with land devoted to other forms of agriculture. The landscape here is made up of rolling limestone hills, bordered to the east by the Saône River, which flows south to join the Rhône just outside Lyon.
