The wine region of Corton Grand Cru 'Clos du Roi'

Grand Cru climat of ~11 ha in Aloxe-Corton (Côte de Beaune), on the mid south-east slope of the hill: 100% Pinot Noir at the heart of Corton's most prestigious climates. Deep ruby robe, nose of wild berries, violet, leather and earthy notes, rich tannic palate sometimes austere in youth but ageing superbly. Iron-stained marly stony soils rich in ferruginous oolite — slope better suited to Pinot than the Chardonnay west side. Grand Cru since 1936.

The wine region of Burgundy

Absolute reference for great terroir wines: opulent, mineral Chardonnay in whites (chiselled Chablis, buttery Meursault, majestic Montrachet), fine and silky Pinot Noir in reds (full-bodied Gevrey, structured Pommard, delicate Volnay). Exceptional age-worthy wines with complex notes - red fruits, undergrowth, butter, hazelnut. Some lively Aligoté and light Gamay (Mâconnais). 29,500 ha, 84 tiered AOCs (Régionale, Village, 1er Cru, Grand Cru), 1,247 UNESCO Climats.

The word of the wine: Pommadé

Said of a wine that is unbalanced, pasty, syrupy, and whose excessive sugar content gives an impression of heaviness.
