Administratively, the Champagne grand cru can be produced in the departments of Marne, Aisne, Aube, Seine-et-Marne and Haute-Marne. Its vineyards benefit from a temperate-oceanic Climate with a continental influence and a Terroir made of limestone and marl soils.
