Deeply coloured, powerful reds with inky robe (teinturier grape with red flesh) and tight tannins, with intense aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, black plum, spices, leather and balsamic notes. High acidity and fine ageing potential. Often made by the ancestral qvevri method (buried clay jar), it signs the great Georgian reds of Kakheti (Mukuzani, Kvareli, Napareuli). Taman Peninsula between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, Russia's wine heartland facing Crimea, at the latitude of Bordeaux. Ample Chardonnay and lively citrusy Rkatsiteli whites. Soviet-inherited sparkling tradition ("Shampanskoye").

The wine region of Кубань

Russia's leading wine region (Krasnodar Krai) between the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, ~50% of Russian wine. Mediterranean to sub-tropical climate. Firm signature Cabernet Sauvignon with signature notes of cassis, blackberry, cedar and a spicy touch, structured tannins. Round Merlot (plum, cherry), dense Saperavi (black cherry, ink), native Krasnostop (blackberry, pepper).

The word of the wine: Broker

In the past, he was a sort of fraud control agent who had to watch over the quality of merchant wines (he could carry a sword!). His function has evolved towards expertise (it was the brokers who established the famous 1855 classification in Bordeaux) and today he puts the producer in contact with the merchant.
