It is thought to be the result of a natural cross between montonico pinto and scacco. It has often been confused with the catarratto even today. Tokaj (formerly Tokaj-Hegyalja) has Long been Hungary's most famous and respected wine region, thanks mostly to its nectar-like, botrytized Tokaji dessert wines.
