Heart of Georgian Kakheti in the Alazani valley, ancestral winemaking in qvevri (buried clay jars) inscribed on UNESCO heritage lists. Saperavi is the signature red (a rare teinturier): opaque and dense with blackberry, black cherry, plum, spices, leather and a balsamic note, firm tannins and lively acidity. Rkatsiteli is the signature white: dry and full in European style, or amber and tannic from qvevri with dried fruit, honey and walnut notes. Napareuli is the most celebrated village.
