An intraspecific cross between Limberger and Cabernet Sauvignon obtained in 1970 by Bernard Hill of the Weinsberg Research Institute in Germany. It can be found in Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, but is virtually unknown in France.

St. Gallen is a German-speaking Canton of eastern Switzerland with a corresponding AOC. Much of the winegrowing that does occur within its borders takes place in the Rheintal region (the upper Rhein Valley) whose name often appears more prominently on labels.
