The wine region of Orvieto Classico is located in the region of Orvieto of Ombrie of Italy. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Barberani or the Domaine Decugnano dei Barbi produce mainly wines white, sweet and sparkling. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Orvieto Classico are Chardonnay, Verdelho and Vermentino, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Orvieto Classico often reveals types of flavors of citrus, almonds or vegetal and sometimes also flavors of oak, spices or tropical fruit.
In the mouth of Orvieto Classico is a with a nice freshness. We currently count 75 estates and châteaux in the of Orvieto Classico, producing 107 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Orvieto Classico go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, lamb or pork.
It’s easy to forget that the southern Rhône’s four most prevalent red varieties aren’t indigenous. Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre all appear to originate from Spain; Syrah made its way down the river from the northern Rhône. Of the long tail of other grapes, most have their roots closer to home.
