Very deeply coloured, structured reds with an inky robe, firm tannins and fresh acidity, with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, pepper, spice and herbal blackcurrant-leaf notes. Dense palate, persistent finish. Grown in Germany (Württemberg, Palatinate, Rheinhessen) for modern-styled dry reds and blends seeking colour and substantial structure. German variety created in 1971 in Weinsberg, a cross of Dornfelder × Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wine region of Heilbronn

Heart of Württemberg Unterland (Neckar valley, historic capital of Swabian wine), sunny Muschelkalk and Keuper soils. Swabian Trollinger: light and easy-drinking red with vivid red fruits and fresh cherry, local bistro wine. Lemberger: structured and deep with dark fruits, spices, clove and pepper, firm tannins. Samtrot velvety and Riesling vivid and mineral white with citrus.

The wine region of Württemberg

Rare predominantly red region in Germany (nearly 70%). Supple, fruity everyday reds: light, crisp Trollinger (Schiava) with red fruits, more structured, spicy, deep Lemberger (Blaufränkisch), generous Schwarzriesling (Pinot Meunier). Riesling king of whites (>2,000 ha), lively and mineral, citrus and green apple. Germany's 4th region (11,500 ha) on the Neckar slopes around Heilbronn and Stuttgart.

The word of the wine: INAO
