Discover the grape variety: Gold
Simple, dry whites with a pale golden robe, a supple palate with moderate acidity, and undemonstrative aromas of citrus and white flowers. Discreet, rustic profile. Preserved in a few ampelographic collections, among the ancient grapes of heritage value whose commercial diffusion has virtually disappeared and which are studied for their genetic interest. Rare, poorly documented white grape grown in confidential quantities.

The wine region of Schweigen
Southernmost village of the Palatinate on the French border (Bad Bergzabern), famous Sonnenberg (VDP Grosse Lage) straddling the border, sunny limestone soils. Riesling is the signature king white — taut and balanced with stone fruit, citrus, baked apple and a mineral limestone touch, racy acidity and ageing potential. Spätburgunder as fine and silky king red with red fruits, forest floor and refined tannins (Friedrich Becker estate). Ample Weißburgunder.
The wine region of Pfalz
Fleshy, dry, fruity Riesling is the region's signature: yellow peach, apricot, ripe citrus, lovely mineral tension. Germany's largest red-wine area (40%), with silky Spätburgunder showing red fruit and spice, darker structured Dornfelder, supple Portugieser. Some rounded Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. A 23,640 ha vineyard along the Haardt, among Germany's warmest (>2,000 h of sun).
The word of the wine: Assemblage (Champagne)
In Champagne, it is the art of blending still wines from different grape varieties (pinot meunier, pinot noir, chardonnay), from different terroirs (villages, areas) and often from different years. The incorporation of older wines, called reserve wines, allows for greater aromatic complexity.
