Found in Switzerland in the upper Valais where it was used to produce the famous "Vin des glaciers". In France, it is little known except in Savoie and the Jura, although it is listed in the official catalogue of wine grape varieties on the A1 list. The wine region of Côteaux du Layon is located in the region of Centre Loire of Loire Valley of France. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Baumard or the Domaine Moulin Touchais produce mainly wines white, sweet and red. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Côteaux du Layon are Chenin blanc, Cabernet franc and Cabernet-Sauvignon, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety.
