Discover the grape variety: Avana

Light, fruity reds with a clear ruby robe, smooth tannins and a supple, fresh palate, showing signature aromas of red fruits (strawberry, raspberry, cherry), flowers and delicate Alpine spices. An airy, drink-young profile. Almost extinct, preserved on a few heritage plots in the Pinerolese, west of Turin, in high-altitude Alpine vineyards. An indigenous Italian variety from Piedmont, a witness to the ancient varieties of the Piedmontese valleys.

The wine region of Valsusa

Alpine DOC of Piedmont (1997) in the Susa Valley west of Turin, high-altitude vineyards on steep slopes. Native Avanà is the signature light red: clear ruby with lively notes of strawberry, raspberry, alpine herbs and a floral-spicy touch, fine tannins and crisp acidity. The more structured Becuet and vibrant Barbera complement it. Native white Baratuciat shows citrus and mineral notes.

The wine region of Piedmont

Kingdom of Nebbiolo: Barolo and Barbaresco DOCG, long-ageing reds with firm tannins and lively acidity, complex aromas of withered rose, sour cherry, tar, truffle and undergrowth. More accessible, tangy Barbera on red fruit, supple, crisp Dolcetto. Sweet, floral sparkling Moscato d'Asti, mineral, lemony Gavi (Cortese) white, round, almondy Arneis from Roero. 50,000 ha across the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, UNESCO.

The word of the wine: Côte des Bar

This is the name given to the vineyards of the Aube, which are closer to Burgundy, and some of the wines produced here bear witness to this proximity. The pinot noir dominates, the meunier is practically absent. Two crus have become references: Riceys, where a rosé without bubbles is also produced, and Montgueux near Troyes, renowned for its Chardonnay.
