The wine region of Devon Valley

Ward of Stellenbosch (Western Cape, South Africa) — one of seven wards: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage and Syrah as signature reds, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay as whites. Hot, dry Mediterranean climate tempered by south-easterly breezes from False Bay — warm summers and mild, wet winters. Varied soils combining granite, clay schist and sandstone. South-facing slopes with optimal drainage and sun ideal for Bordeaux varieties.

The wine region of Western Cape

Cradle of South African wine. Signature Chenin Blanc (Steen, 20%) in ample, fresh whites with notes of quince, yellow apple, honey and acacia flower, from crisp dry to sweet. Sharp, iodised Sauvignon Blanc (Walker Bay, Constantia), balanced Chardonnay. Reds: emblematic Pinotage with roasted aromas (coffee, plum, smoke), firm Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy Syrah.

The word of the wine: Apogee

This period varies greatly depending on the type of wine and the vintage, and corresponds to the optimum quality of a wine. After the peak comes the decline.
