Discover the grape variety: Planta nova

A very old indigenous grape variety that has been cultivated for a very long time in Spain, more precisely in the western region of Valencia, where it is practically no longer multiplied today. It is said to be the result of a natural cross between the heftakilo and the rojal tinta, which are both black varieties. Planta nova can still be found in Portugal, Argentina, South Africa, ... almost unknown in France. A long time ago it was also harvested as a table grape, which is no longer the case today.

The wine region of Sussex

The wine region of Sussex is located in the region of England of United Kingdom. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Nyetimber or the Domaine Nyetimber produce mainly wines sparkling, white and red. The wine region of England

England, although more famous for gin and beer, has been producing wine since Roman Imperial times (100 – 400 AD). Historically the country has not been known for the quality of its winemaking, inhibited by its northerly latitude and resulting cool Climate. However the last decade or so has seen considerable progress and expansion, and increases in planting of noble Grape varieties. Significant chaptilzation to off-set the high Acidity of under-ripe grapes was once common practice but since the 1970s and particularly since the turn of the millennium natural sugar levels have increased in the Vineyard and wines have increased in quality and reputation.

Fred Sirieix: ‘English wine estates need to play the long game’

I’m a massive fan of English sparkling wines, which are getting better with every vintage, aided by the changing climate, of course – the grapes are filling up with sun, and you can taste that in the glass. So how can we convince consumers not to overlook English sparkling wine, and show them that it is a real contender: often just as good, if not better than Champagne? Perhaps by pitting the two against each other in a special blind tasting by the experts, Judgement of Paris style. Judgement of ...
