The wine region of Clairette de Languedoc
White AOC of Languedoc (1948) on hills north of Pézenas (Hérault), hot and dry climate on Villafranchian terraces, marls and schists. Clairette Blanche is the exclusive signature grape (100%): pale with green glints, dry and supple with apple, grapefruit, white flowers, pear, peach and a delicate honey touch. Also produced as medium-sweet, rancio and liqueur wine. A refined aperitif style.
The wine region of Languedoc-Roussillon
Largest single French vineyard, dominated by sunny, generous reds. Spicy Syrah, candied Grenache (ripe fruit, garrigue), structured Carignan, deep Mourvèdre, supple Cinsault. Stars: structured Corbières, Minervois, Faugères, Saint-Chinian; round Côtes-du-Roussillon. Legendary vins doux naturels: Banyuls and Maury (fortified Grenache) with notes of cocoa, fig, prune.
The word of the wine: Local wine
Table wine, but with the origin indicated. It corresponds to a particular legislation: the freedom to use grape varieties is greater than for the AOC, but the quality criteria such as the approval tastings can sometimes be more demanding. The legislation is still evolving, but for the moment there are three levels: regional (e.g. Vin de Pays d'Oc), departmental and local (e.g. Côtes de Thongue).
