The Altesse white grape variety is French in origin, but its ancestors were brought from Cyprus. It then developed in the vineyards of the southeast of the country. Brouilly is an appellation for red wines produced from Vineyards in north-central Beaujolais. The lower slopes of Mont Brouilly and the surrounding countryside contain large plantings of the Gamay Grape.
