The Viña Salceda Estate is a historic and prestigious winemaking territory located in the famous wine region of Rioja, Spain. It spans an area of 48 hectares that are entirely dedicated to viticulture and the production of exceptionally high-quality wines. Situated in Elciego, the estate benefits from a unique geographical location, shaped by the three sub-regions of Rioja: Alta, Alavesa, and Baja. Viña Salceda was established in 1969, and since then, has been a true benchmark in the production of elite red wines, primarily made from Tempranillo grapes, the reigning variety of Rioja. The house's vision is one of uncompromising excellence and quality, something which is made possible thanks to the incredible mosaic of microclimates and soils within the property. The idyllic climate of the region, with its mild winters and hot summers, as well as the convergence of Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic influences, make the Viña Salceda Estate an exceptional terroir. Respect for tradition and terroir is essential at Viña Salceda, but this does not exclude innovation. The winery uses the latest technologies to finely control the winemaking process, ensuring the stability and quality of their wines with each vintage. The range of wines produced by Viña Salceda includes the Reserva and the Crianza, both of which are highly respected and have received numerous awards for their excellence. These wines are a true expression of the Rioja terroir, bringing notes of ripe fruit and spices, all backed up by well-structured tannins and good acidity, ensuring great longevity.

Discovering the wine region of Rioja

Rioja, in northern Spain, is best known for its berry-flavored, barrel-aged red wines made from Tempranillo and Garnacha. It is probably the leading wine region in Spain. It is certainly the most famous, rivaling only Jerez. The Vineyards follow the course of the Ebro for a hundred kilometres between the towns of Haro and Alfaro.

Besides Tempranillo and Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan) are also used in Rioja's red wines. Some wineries, notably Marqués de Riscal, use small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. White grapes are planted much less. In 2017, the vineyard area was recorded at 64,215 hectares (158,679 acres).
