Münster-Sarmsheim is a Village on the banks of the Nahe river, just a Short distance South of the river's confluence with the Rhine river.
Like many of its neighbors, Münster-Sarmsheim's most prized wines are made from the Riesling grape in a variety of different styles.
The village Lies below the Münster forest and is within walking distance of the important wine town of Bingen. Much of the local farmland was converted to Vineyards during the 20th Century.
There are three vineyards classified as Grosse Lage in this area – Langenberg, Dautenpflänzer and Pittersberg.
Dautenpflänze is a small parcel within the larger Kapellenberg vineyard, planted on soils of loess-clay and quartzite. It is favorably located at the foothills of the Münster forest with a southeast aspect. This provides the Riesling vines with Ample sunlight hours and protection from the cold westerly winds, allowing for a Long, even ripening period.
The 9 hectare (23 ac) Münsterer Pittersberg vineyard is on the western outskirts of the village. Its close proximity to the river offers a warm, dry environment that is accentuated by the steep south-facing aspect. Soils are slate and Devonian schist.
Two of Münster-Sarmsheim's most notable local wineries are Weingut Göttelmann and Weingut Kruger-Rumpf.
