Discovering the wine region of Jutland

Pioneer Danish wine peninsula with a cool continental climate and long luminous summers — mostly organic viticulture. Solaris is the signature white grape (>60%), a disease-resistant PIWI hybrid: dry and aromatic with intense citrus, exotic fruit, white flower and herbaceous notes akin to NZ Sauvignon, with crisp acidity. Rondo (1964 hybrid) produces fruity and accessible reds with cherry, blackberry and spice, soft tannins — mainly in rosés.

Colourful, fruity reds with a dense purple robe, supple tannins and fresh acidity. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, plum, blackcurrant and spicy notes. Round palate, best drunk young. A very early-ripening, cold-hardy interspecific variety (to -25 °C), it drives northern viticulture in Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Poland. German hybrid created in 1964 at Geilweilerhof (Vitis amurensis × Saint-Laurent, descended from Zarya Severa).

Catalan synonym for carignan (sometimes cinsault depending on the region), a historic Mediterranean black variety.
