A very old grape variety whose origin is still uncertain, it is thought to have come from Greece, and for others its origin is Bulgarian from the Thrace plain where it is still widely cultivated. It can be found in Romania, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, etc. Little known in France, it is nevertheless registered in the Official Catalogue of Wine Grape Varieties, list A1.

Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Papargyriou or the Domaine Papargyriou produce mainly wines red, white and pink. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Korinthos are Agiorgitiko, Assyrtiko and Cabernet-Sauvignon, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Korinthos often reveals types of flavors of cream, plum or tropical fruit and sometimes also flavors of cranberry, raspberry or strawberries.
