Whites with many faces: mineral and taut at Chablis (lemon, green apple, flint), opulent and buttery at Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet (hazelnut, brioche, yellow fruits), tense and chalky in Champagne (Blanc de Blancs). Also vinified sparkling and widely exported (Sonoma, Margaret River, Casablanca). A Burgundian variety, a cross of Pinot Noir × Gouais Blanc, half-sibling of Aligoté.
Major wine centre in the Thracian Plain (southern Bulgaria), deep alluvial soils, temperate continental climate. Mavrud native ancestral signature red: dense and opaque with blackberry, plum, mulberry, medicinal herbs and balsamic hints, firm tannins and lively acidity — ages superbly in oak. Rubin (Syrah × Nebbiolo cross) full-bodied with blackberry, violet and spice. Cabernet and Merlot complement.
