The wine region of Thessalia of Greece. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Dougos or the Domaine Thymiopoulos produce mainly wines white, red and pink. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Thessalia are Assyrtiko, Xinomavro and Cabernet-Sauvignon, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. Having joined The Wine Society’s team in 1973 as promotions manager, Payne became the head buyer in 1985. He stepped down from this position in 2012, when Tim Sykes took over, but has remained on the buying team ever since.
