The production and consumption of Alcoholic beverages, particularly wine, in Afghanistan has a Long tradition - dating back to at least the fourth century BC. Currently, the possession and consumption of alcohol is prohibited for Afghan nationals. However, the Afghan government licenses several outlets to distribute alcoholic beverages to foreign journalists and tourists, and black market consumption of alcohol is also widespread. Foreigners entering Afghanistan are allowed to bring two bottles or two litres of liquor.
