An intraspecific cross between the Madeleine angevine and the Gewurztraminer obtained in 1929 by Georg Scheu at the Alzey testing station (Germany). Almost unknown in France, it can be found in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, England, the United States, Canada, etc.

Franken, or Franconia in English, is a wine-growing region in the northwest of Germany's historic state of Bavaria. Though Bavaria may be more famous for its beer, Franken boasts a proud viticultural tradition and is one of the most unique regions in the country. There are just over 6,100 hectares (15,073 ac) of vines Planted in Franken and around 80 percent of these are white Grape varieties. After 20 to 25 years, the yields stabilize and tend to decrease, the vines are deeply rooted, and the grapes that come from them give richer, more concentrated, more sappy wines, expressing with more nuance the characteristics of their terroir.
