Discover the grape variety: Penouille

Light, simple fruity reds with a pale, lightly coloured ruby, soft tannins and an airy palate with moderate acidity, undemonstrative red fruit aromas. Rustic, discreet profile. Almost extinct, preserved in INRAE varietal collections for its heritage value, testament to the pre-phylloxera ampelographic diversity of the South-West and studied among heritage varieties. Rare French black variety, once grown in the South-West.

The wine region of Coteaux de Die

Languedoc AOC (Roussillon: Maury, Lesquerde, Rasiguères, Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet), black schist terroirs, mistral and tramontane. Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan in powerful and complex dry reds with intense notes of black cherry, blackberry, garrigue, liquorice, spices and a classy schist-mineral touch, firm age-worthy tannins. Distinct from sweet natural Maury, dry style elaborated since 2011. Emblematic schist terroir of the Fenouillèdes.

The wine region of Rhone Valley

France's 2nd-largest AOC vineyard, two complementary worlds. Northern: pure Syrah in signature reds (Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Cornas), deep and peppery with blackberry, violet, black olive and smoked bacon notes, exceptional ageing. Opulent Viognier whites (Condrieu, apricot, flowers) and ample Marsanne-Roussanne. Southern: sun-soaked Grenache blends at Châteauneuf, Gigondas, Vacqueyras (candied fruit, garrigue).

The word of the wine: Dame-jeanne

Large bottle or wicker-clad carboy used to transport wine and store old spirits before blending.
