The wine region of Olifants River

Western Cape region (South Africa) north of the Cape along the Olifants River, hot arid climate tempered by Atlantic breezes. Chenin Blanc is the signature white king: ample and fruity with yellow apple, pear, melon, honey and tropical touches, fresh acidity preserved by altitude (Citrusdal Mountain). Herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc and lively Colombard in coastal zones. Sun-drenched Shiraz and dense Cabernet Sauvignon in highland reds.

The wine region of Western Cape

Cradle of South African wine. Signature Chenin Blanc (Steen, 20%) in ample, fresh whites with notes of quince, yellow apple, honey and acacia flower, from crisp dry to sweet. Sharp, iodised Sauvignon Blanc (Walker Bay, Constantia), balanced Chardonnay. Reds: emblematic Pinotage with roasted aromas (coffee, plum, smoke), firm Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy Syrah.

The word of the wine: Powdery mildew

Disease of the vine due to a fungus. Less dreadful than mildew, it only attacks the surface of the green parts. Sulphur has long been the best remedy.
