Oregon, located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, is one of the youngest and most promising wine regions in the world. The state put itself on the international wine map in the late 1960s and has been building its position ever since. Production volumes have remained relatively quiet. The 2017 Oregon Vineyards and Wineries report recorded just under 34,000 acres (13,750 hectares) of planted vineyards.
California has more than ten times as much vineyard acreage as Oregon. Yet in the early 21st century, Oregon is considered a world-class wine region, especially for its Pinot noir. The classic Oregon Pinot has a Deepcherry red Color. It offers aromas of black cherries, stewed strawberries and an earthy edge.

Wartime Cognac
The French shipment of 600 bottles of De Haartman & Co Cognac – plus 15 boxes of Bénédictine liqueur – is believed to have been destined for Tsar Nicholas II, but was intercepted in the Baltic Sea and sunk by a German submarine in May 1917. Guigal acquires Tavel rosé estate Château d’Aqueria
Guigal has acquired Château d’Aqueria for an undisclosed fee in a deal that adds to a sense of fresh dynamism in the historic vineyards of Tavel, a rosé-only appellation that lies on the west bank of the Rhône river in southern France. Record sales for Burgundy’s Hospices de Nuits 2022 auction
Total sales at the Hospices de Nuits-St-Georges 2022 auction reached €2.49m ($2.74m) from 109 ‘pièces‘ of wines from the Burgundy 2021 vintage, said organisers. Held on Sunday 20 March, sales rose by nearly 30% on last year’s auction, which hit €1.9m from 114 pièces of 2020-vintage wines. One pièce is equivalent to 288 bottles.
